Corporate Wellness
More and more companies are implementing wellness programs in
the workplace. Seeing that we spend on average at least 40 hours a week
at our job, I think this is a great idea.
If you ask people why they don’t stick to their wellness regiment, the
answer is usually this,“I do not have enough time, by the time I leave work
im exhausted, and I still have to make the kids (husband, wife, dog, etc.)
dinner.”
Eventually, this cycle creates stress on our bodies, both physically and
mentally. Our bodies need to move and stretch in some way or another
every single day, especially if you sit at a desk for long hours. Sitting long
periods of time is extremely taxing on the body, and over time can
severely limit your range of motion. Headaches, Neck, Shoulder and Low
Back Pain are all symptoms of what I like to call “Desk Dweller” Syndrome.
On the other hand, our minds need that break too. Most employers originally had the notion that stepping away to participate in some type of wellness service would decrease employee productivity, but they found it was the opposite. Stepping away gives people the chance they need to clear and settle their mind. This helps to lower stress levels not just for each employee, but your entire office. Lower stress in the workplace is never a bad thing!
There are many different types of Wellness services that you can implement into your facility, depending on your needs. Massage, Yoga, Exercise classes, Meditation, and Wellness Coaching are all great examples of things you can provide in the workplace. People can opt to attend sessions instead of their lunch hour, or they can come in early or late that day to participate so they do not lose work hours. Employers can choose if they will pay for the service, or have the employees responsible to cover their share.
By implementing a Corporate Wellness Program in your company you can expect to see decreased abesenteeism and health care costs, but more importantly an increase in employee morale and job satisfaction.
